New wave, Power-pop, High-energy FUN!
The Clean began in the early 80's in the San Francisco Bay Area (we truly had no knowledge of the NZ band of the same name, until MANY years later), performing regularly from 1981-1983. Having its roots in the American Punk-pop scene, and borrowing from heavier, energetic rock sounds from the 70's, modeling much from the New Wave movement in the latter part of the decade, The Clean played local shows, and a few clubs and outdoor venues, concerts and Band Battles, in which they usually placed 1st or 2nd! As a pseudo-Christian band, we found ourselves as "fish-out-of-water". At the same time, however, we also felt at home; in that the common-ground was the excitement and creativity in the music!
