Story behind the song
In 2001 I joined a band named Soulvasq. They were friends of mine that I've known for quite a while, and they were all really good with their respective instruments. They had plenty of songs written that we rearranged and rewrote when I joined. I had the drummer and bassist come into the studio I was a partner in, and record rough demos of a bunch of their songs. Two years later, after I left the band, I really wanted good, finished versions of the Soulvasq songs, and decided to build on those original bass and drum demos. Misery was a fan favorite Soulvasq song. The uptempo swing feel is something that everyone can enjoy. When I joined, I tried to support Mark's bassline with my guitar parts, but tried to add horns as well. I really enjoyed playing this song live, especially the distorted guitar parts and the whammy pedal bits. Eventually, I'll get Dave to record the vocals :)
