Story behind the song
I used to play trivial pursuit with some friends every Sunday. During Mardi Gras season, me and my teammate (we played in teams) got the baby from the strawberry and creamcheese king cake. It looked like a dead baby (to put it nicely). So we called our team for the night Dead Baby, and we put our little mascot up on a can of Coke. Or at least we tried. Our little Dead Baby wouldn't sit up right, so my teammate Joey says, "Awww, man. Dead baby won't stay." Someone said, "That sounds like a song title!" Someone else looked at me and said, "Write it!" So I did.
Lyrics
She was pouring the ale in a pub in south Wales she wasn't like the other girls She filled me with desire with her hair like fire hanging down in little curls. She said, "Hey there sonny, why dont you keep your money. We cand find better things to do." If only I could see what she would do to me Before the night was through. She said, "Let's leave this place for a faster pace. Let's make the most of tonight. We'll take a little walk on down the block and maybe I might have a bite." She was my vampire lover, my corpse in the covers Until the light of day. So when I woke at dawn to see she's gone I know my dead baby won't stay. During the Civil War I fed on blood galore In the brothels of New Orleans. And then we shoot like a gun to World War I When I dined on French cuisine. I spent many a night with the hippies at the haight. I was really one grateful dead. And when I saw that meal in red high heels this is what I said: "Let's leave this place for a faster pace. Let's make the most of tonight. We'll take a little walk on down the block and maybe I might have a bite." I was her vampire lover, her corpse in the covers Until the light of day. And when she woke at dawn to see me gone She'll remember dead baby won't stay. I love the sweet taste of a pretty face and the blood flowing in those veins. And they stand in line so I can dine on the pleasure of their pains. I'll feed on many more like I have before As the centuries go rolling by And in 3000 AD when you talk to me, This will be my reply: "Let's leave this place for a faster pace. Let's make the most of tonight. We'll take a little walk on down the block and maybe I might have a bite." I'll be your vampire lover, your corpse in the covers Until the light of day. And when you wake at dawn to see me gone Just remember dead baby won't stay.
