Wendell is from the tiny, beautiful, Pacific island of Guam. He started songwriting seriously in 2001 at the tender age of 30 when he decided to mail a song he wrote called Not Our Last Goodbye to a Nashville recording studio just to "see" what it would sound like with professionals performing it. Little did he know how much that experiment would change his life! When the tape returned to him, he was so impressed and inspired, that he decided to give songwriting a serious go. A few months went by and Wendell sent more songs to make demos. Then he created a website to share his music with the online world! Luckily, a publisher named Ken Klar at Must Have Music saw one of his songs and offered him a single song publishing agreement. Thus began another important step towards becoming a professional songwriter. Since 2001, Wendell has had his songs played on local radio and television, independent online radio stations, weddings, and artist demo kits. In June of 2003, he had songs considered for placement for the Hallmark Channel and also had his first unofficial hold- by Collin Raye nonetheless! It was yet another important stepping stone in his development as a songwriter and his search for that ever elusive first cut. Since his first batch of songs, Wendell has been reading every songwriting book, polishing his own abilities as a singer and instrumentalist, learning about home recording (his recent hobby), getting his songs critiqued by industry professionals, and doing some big-time soul-searching to find his artistic "voice". Be believes that inside of him there is something important to say and share. Of course, in between moments of excitement, he still wages the battle with writer's block and balancing life apart from the keyboard and notepad. "I feel so blessed at this early point in my journey. I have to give God all the credit. Obviously He has a plan for me even though most of the time I haven’t the clue! If you had told me 5 years ago if I would be doing this and all this has happened - I'd say you were nuuuuts! I feel I have so much more to learn - especially about lyric writing. But I can't wait to hear my songs develop as I continue on." For 2005, Wendell plans to write songs about overcoming adversity and enjoying the fun of life. "Thanks to all my friends who helped me through some rough times late in 2004. Especially to my new drinking buddies ( W,X,&Z ) LOL - U have no idea how much u've helped! 2005 is gonna be good!

Lyrics
I’ll Be There © 2003 Lyrics by David Grubb Music by Wendell M. Roden Verse 1: I grew up a poor boy in the mountains back home For twenty years I’ve been out on my own Seems like I’ve been travelin’ most of my life But I still go back home when I close my eyes Chorus: I’ll be there when my days are over, lying on a field of clover In a meadow on a mountain, by a spring, pure and still And as long as the breeze keeps blowin’ And the streams they keep a-flowin’ To the rivers in the valleys of those beautiful hills I’ll be there in those hills Verse 2: I’ll always have the memories of my mom and dad When they were livin’, and the good times we had Now I’ll just travel this country, like a gypsy I will roam I know some day I’ll find, the highway back home (Repeat Chorus) Verse 3: There’s no way of knowin’ which way you’re goin’ When you leave this world and you’re out on your own So when I’m sleepin’, please don’t be weepin’ For this poor mountain boy will find his way back home
