Story behind the song
I wrote half of this in Boston, and half in chlorine room at a pool I lifeguarded at. It was a rainy day so me and my co-worker (one of the hottest girls ever) sat in that smelly, cold, damp room all day. Luckily I had my guitar with me in my car. I think that girl, Jackie was her name, thought I was weird and she just slept. Written August 2003
Lyrics
Why, Did you let me in? You, Weren’t supposed to Let me slip I am your second best Stab two thorns in my chest And anything I’d do To be one less than two Maybe if I am patient One day I could replace him Like a bad drug I’m attached Number two can’t stomach that You weren’t supposed to let me in Or slip But you did Why, Did you let me in? You, Weren’t supposed to Let me slip I mean nothing without you Dirt means nothing without a seed Some things are empty without each other So plant me deep and I’ll grow above her Maybe if I am patient One day I could replace him Like a bad drug I’m attached Number two can’t stomach that You weren’t supposed to let me in Or slip But you did Seeds get buried on their own No need for us to be planted alone Even if the garden is full She makes room for number two
