Story behind the song
I had an idea for this story after I saw a mother and her crying child. The mother didn't try to comfort him yet she looked at me, a stranger and gave me a wonderful warm smile. I felt sorry for a little boy who didn't get her smile. I thought the title "A Smile For A Stranger" would be a good title for our song. Later my co-writer Christine created her beautiful and moving lyric as an adult version.
Lyrics
A Smile for a Stranger Copyright © 2006 Lyrics by: Christine Molloy Siddaway, music by: Nadia Cripps Verse: [One] You seem to frown when I'm around I can't help asking why It hurts so much I miss your touch Can't you see the tears I cry? I feel so sad the love we had Is barely there to see You used to smile in days gone by Now that's just a memory Chorus: You always have a smile for a stranger You never ever smile for me You always have a smile for a stranger You should be smiling at me naturally Verse: [Two] You look so blue when I'm with you I can't help asking why I'll find a cure of that I'm sure Can't you see the way I try? I feel so sad the love we had Is barely there to see You used to smile in days gone by Now that's just a memory End Chorus: You always have a smile for a stranger You never ever smile for me You always have a smile for a stranger You should be smiling at me naturally You always have a smile for a stranger
