Story behind the song
Drugz are fun until you forget the purpose of living.
Lyrics
V1 Don't let anybody tell you that drugs will do no harm, That all the hype and warnings are just another false alarm. Here's the whole, true story of how I lost my mind. Been thirty years or more, and it's still nowhere I can find. V2 It was innocent enough, (or so I thought). Started with papers and a bong. Soon my friends were joining in, and they brought other goodies along. I couldn't see straight most of the time. That's not what made me blue. I forgot where I was s'posed to be working. They forgot about me, too. Ch And I was tired of the handfuls of quaaludes, bored with sniffing glue, Weary of breathin' nitrous until our brains turned blue. We reached that point of no return. Had way more than enough. We don't do drugs anymore. We're so crazy . . . drugs did us! V3 My girl and I went drinkin' and tried some ecstasy. Not the kind we shared at home, the one that bends reality. My keys wouldn't open the driver's side door, when we left the bar. Then my girlfriend said, "Hey, stupid! This is not your car!" Ch V4 They found me, ironically, in a basket, in my living room, Suckin' on a pint of whiskey and gnawing on a huge mushroom. "Answer one question," the deputy said, "and we'll be on our way." "Just tell us what day this is?" And I said, "Sure! Today!!" Br They took me to detox and rehab, and the staff, they all remarked, "We asked him what his name was. He just sat there and barked." A few months later when I came to, they discharged me as they sighed. (He might not do drugs again, but he's totally deep fried.) V5 The point of this sad story is--a lot of us can be too smug. And other people, just like me, are not as tough as their drug, For mine would look me in the eye and beckon me to go, And I'm the kind of guy who finds it hard to just say, no!
