BURNING OF I is the best metal band you’ve never heard.
The blackened seeds of BURNING OF I were planted in early 2004 when vocalist/guitarist Jacob Weatherspoon and drummer Tory McKaeg joined forces to inflict their love of black metal upon the sleepy farm community of Duvall WA. Marshalling their forces, Tory enlisted the aid of high school friend and bassist Jesse Brasch to commandeer the low-end, while Jacob would tap a high school friend of his own in the talented Matt Fisne, the one guitarist he knew who could keep up with his frantic finger-work. Complete and monickered, BURNING OF I would spend the next 2 years tempering their skills in the crucible of the practice room, progressing far beyond the constraints of black metal in writing the tunes that would comprise their first EP, the amply titled "A Small Little Shack in a Big Wet Messy Nothing". More than mere songs, "Shack" is built from sprawling, riff-laden compositions that bristle with power and complexity, with instant classics "Nougat", "Aloe Vera" and "Party Charge" illustrating the seriousness and attention to craft that would become the band’s trademark.
After the the release of "Shack" in the summer of 2006, BURNING OF I toured relentlessly in support of the EP, devastating the Pacific Northwest with their live onslaught, and establishing a reputation amongst discerning metal fans as a galvanizing live act. Then late in 2008, the band bent their will towards the construction of SLAMHOG STUDIO, where they would spend the next year vigorously perfecting the vision that would become the band's first full length release. The result of this laser intense, year-long focus is "Nowhere is a Destination", a collossal stride forward in the evolution of BURNING OF I.
"Nowhere is a Destination" looms over the band's previous effort, delivering versions of honed-on-stage favorites like "Three Sheets" and "Norwalk" along with captivating new compositions such as scorching opener "T1000", and the magnificent duo "Bear Claw" and "Ivory Tower", which contain the band's finest songwriting to date. At turns brutal, inventive and majestic, "Nowhere is a Destination" is a must-listen for fans of cutting edge metal of all stripes, from MESHUGGAH to BEHEMOTH to MASTODON.
Currently gathering strength for their first national tour, BURNING OF I is unique, uncompromising and ultimately unstoppable. Deny your ears no longer.
