Story behind the song
In Fall, 2002, I was sitting in a hot tub, and started tapping the chorus rhythm... then just as quickly, I came up with the lyrics for the chorus! So I ran in and recorded a quick take of the chorus. But even so, I didn't have a completed song, but had a feeling I wanted it to be about paranoia...
One day I was going thru an old cassette of instrumental tracks I had recorded years ago and came across one that I liked and thought maybe it would be fun to make a finished song out of it. That night I bolted upright out of my sleep and realized that the instrumental track I heard would fit alongside the chorus for "Who's Talking About Me" perfectly! So in the middle of the night I ran to the computer and I put the two sequences together, then started coming up with music for the verses, even though I didn't have lyrics for them yet. I did come up with a melody though, and the lyrics were written in Summer 2003.
Lyrics
No words, I hear their stares
Eyes turn, I feel despair
But I know that, but I know that,
But I know there's something
Goin' on 'round here
Intense feelings of fear...
And they call it paranoia
(Chorus)
Who's talkin' about
Who's talkin' about
Who's talkin' about
Who's talkin' about
Who's talkin' about
Who's talking about.... me
They point, they laugh, play games
Today, they called me names
But I know you, But I know you
But I know you're whisp'rin behind your hands
Those eyes, they say it all
And you call it paranoia
(Chorus)
(Instrumental)
Who's talkin' about (repeat, vamp)
