Story behind the song
This was originally written as a sonnet, words first. A melody evolved, I added a chorus, and this is the result. I like working this way.
Lyrics
SORRY Forgive me if this sounds like irony But darling, every word I say is true: I'm sorry if you're sorry you met me, But there is no way I could feel that way about you. I will not speak of guilt or innocence. My eyes were open wide, I was not blind. And if I'd known it would get so intense, I knew I wanted you and nothing would change my mind. Sorry, We both knew all along that it would end this way. Oh yes, I'm so really, really sorry To say that I still think about you every day. Here comes the inescapable heartache To hang on me -- a medal made of lead. I shudder at the risk I dared to take. No rules, you said? I'm sorry, Love still rules, but hope is dead. Sorry, We both knew all along that it would end this way. Oh yes, I'm so really, really sorry To say that I still think about you every day.
