I knew it was time to get out of the marriage counseling business when I started writing country songs about it!
acoustic folk alternative
Artist picture
Acoustic, folk, adult alternative with a touch of alternative country.
In my other life I'm a futures speculator. Since there is plenty of downtime in the business, I sing, play, and write, so I don't obsess about the markets. My music tends to be pensive. That's no doubt influenced by the fact that my instrument of choice is a classic acoustic guitar.

Story behind the song
The song was inspired by a couple I was counseling who were having marital problems. During that period I went to hear a band (at a bar) with a group of friends. I'm not much of a dancer and was rather out of place. That evening became a metaphor for the lives of the couple I was working with.
Lyrics
1. They're sitting in a booth near the bar, Caressing their drinks and watching the floor Where couples are slow dancing in close embrace But these two are trapped, being so out of place. REFRAIN: Two lives coming together to kindle the fire. The're both wondering whether they've wasted entire lives trying to make it work, lying about the hurt, dying to get a new start at love. Instead the pain of the past has held them both fast and one heart is breaking while the other turns cold. 2. His heart's never danced for this girl, and without experience he doesn't know how to lead her to true love, to kindle her heart, and so she resists the invitation to start. REFRAIN: 3. She once was a rock 'n roll queen but the band's playing country, its a whole different scene. Shes afraid to take a chance. to follow his steps. So they watch and wait in silence and they never get up. REFRAIN: 4. The make their way to the door. They can't dance the two step, and don't belong here. As the music fades her heart begins to break, while the hope in his soul turns to a cold ache. REFRAIN:
