Story behind the song
Mike Maneth, Tyrone Mack, Juan Maldonado and I played together quite a bit when we were attending Musician's Institute, often whenever a singer or soloist in need of a backing band, sometimes just for fun. This is a little instrumental piece we put together that ended up on the "Musician's Institute Student Album September 1988" cassette. We needed a band name, so we listed ourselves as "LFR" -- an acronym for Latin-Funk-Rock. Since we came up with the song in one of the rehearsal rooms in M.I.'s "old building" on Hollywood Boulevard, we continued the theme and called it "BLVD." It was recorded one afternoon at the M.I. studio, also located in the old building at the time. I always kinda liked it.
