Story behind the song

I asked Tom Middleton if he would share his secrets to producing such a fine sound. He very kindly offered me this:

Hi Dominic, the Drums and Bass where played live in a studio then edited in Pro Tools to tighten up. Then the Drums went through a buss compressor to 'glue' them together in the mix. 
Added a touch of classic gold plate reverb to lift the snare, hats and cymbals and give them a sense of space. Bass was Fender Jazz, DI'd and also put through a nice warm valve pre-amp then both bussed through an LA-2A levelling amp again to glue together. 
The Strings where performed by a quartet and triple tracked to sound like an Orchestral String Section.
