For over 40 years I played lead guitar and did back-up vocals in various country bands. It has been one of the greatest thrills of my life. But, these days I stay at home and compose songs, both lyrics and music. My writing style is much broader than just country music. I also write southern rock, a little blues, lots of smooth jazz and movie themes and even some latin music. I have been writing for about 20 years and hope to for quite a few more years.

Lyrics
Never Got That Far (v1) The driver asked as I left his truck Son, you got someplace to go? I’ve been away for so long now The truth is, I don’t know I remember her eyes were shinin’ When I strummed my first guitar And she giggled like a 12-year-old When we kissed in my daddy’s car Chorus Walking down the same dusty road That led away from home I wonder if she'll be waiting If she’ll take me in her arms I set off lookin' to find myself But never got that far Yeah, I set off to find myself But never, no never got that far (v2) One spring night I unbraided her hair It spilled like silk through my hands She turned to me with a trusting smile That’s when I became a man I left that autumn to follow my dream She stood on her porch and wept The vow I made to come back for her Was a promise I never kept Chorus Walking down the same dusty road That led away from home I wonder if she'll be waiting If she’ll take me in her arms I set off lookin’ to find myself But never got that far Yeah, I set off to find myself But never, no never got that far Bridge Now here I stand on her weathered steps Tryin’ hard to keep from hopin’ But I can scarcely breathe As the front door slowly opens Chorus Walking down the same dusty road That led away from home I wonder if she'll be waiting If she’ll take me in her arms I set off lookin’ to find myself But never got that far Yeah, I set off to find myself But never, no never got that far © 2009 Donna Devine and Alan D.
