Story behind the song
Young boys are told not to cry so they won't look like sissies. I've seen major politicians criticized for crying during a speech. Some tell us that if a man doesn't cry, then he must not be a "real" man. Perhaps crying (or lack of it) doesn't make or break the man. Or woman, for that matter. What about laughter? Thus the song was born.
Lyrics
Mighty One It doesna€™t take man for a man to cry And it doesna€™t break a man when a man cries But to laugh at his troubles and look them in the eye Takes a mighty man. It doesna€™t take much woman for a woman to cry And it doesna€™t break a woman when a woman cries But to laugh at her troubles and look them in the eye Takes a mighty woman. Now a child may be weak and a child may be strong But what the child sees they remember for so long They learn by example a€“ they imitate their heroes on TV But the hero could be you and the hero could be me. You can take a child and you can make him cry But you can never make a child by making him cry When a child laughs at trouble and looks it in the eye Therea€™s a mighty one. Now a child can grow big and a child can grow strong But what his eyes have seen is remembered for so long They learn by example a€“ they imitate their heroes on TV But the hero could be you and the hero could be me. You can take a child and you can make him cry But you can never make a child by making him cry When a child laughs at trouble and looks it in the eye Therea€™s a mighty one. Therea€™s a mighty one. Therea€™s a mighty one. Copyright 2003 Steve Dockendorf All Rights Reserved
