Acoustic fingerstyle singer-songwriter; kind of a mashup of Leonard Cohen, Nellie McKay, Stuart Davis, Jason Mrasz, with a little Martin Simpson thrown in. Working on my CD, that I hope will be out this Spring: "The Suburban Book of the Dead."

Story behind the song
The term "butterfly effect" comes from the work of Edward Lorenz, and is part of chaos theory and what is called 'sensitive dependence' on initial conditions. The phrase refers to the idea that a butterfly's wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that may ultimately alter the path of a tornado or delay, accelerate or even prevent the occurrence of a tornado in a certain location. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different. While the butterfly does not cause the tornado, the flap of its wings is an essential part of the initial conditions resulting in a tornado. I thought the idea made a beautiful framework for a love song where the smallest gesture changes everything. The song contains allusions to chaos and string theory as well, for those who hear the phrase 'how do I love thee' and need to count the ways. . . .
Lyrics
Butterfly Effect It's a delicate connection Such a sensitive dependency. When you cry in San Francisco I feel the rain In New York City. It's the Butterfly Effect That your wings affect my weather. So complex and indirect You string my universe Together You are the chain of my coincidence I'm your falling domino Is love your cause or my effect However did you know? It's the Butterfly Effect That your wings affect my weather. So complex and indirect You string my universe Together. The chaos of your smile Is a storm in all directions Just a pair of fragile wings Began the rain Of my redemption. Can your whisper change the weather? Calm the storm inside my heart? In the mirror of forever We were never far apart. It's the Butterfly Effect That your wings affect my weather. So complex and indirect You string my universe Together It's a delicate connection Such a sensitive dependency. When you cry in San Francisco I feel the rain In New York City.
