Born in Glasgow but now living in Birmingham, I've fronted many bands over the years but decided to go out in my own right a few years ago. Although scary, I love it cos it's all down to me! If I don't rehearse well enough, I can't blame the drummer when mistakes happen! I enjoy playing live but find it difficult to find decent venues as Landlords don't want to pay money for acoustic solo acts when they can get 'open mic' entertainment for free. I love small venues with candles and tables or lively pubs where the audiences are open minded enough to list to more than just karaoke and tribute acts. My partner Jean Davison is also a singer songwriter and we support each other as much as we can. Story behind the song
While driving home late one night I saw an illuminated sign which said 'Stay away from lonely places'. I just had to write a song, which I did and I later used it for a scene in the Jan Watts Play 'Zipline' where two total anoraks are giving the health and safety message to a group of bored young kids on a camping break in the woods.
Lyrics
Stay away from lonely places and psychopaths with smiling faces and don't walk round woth untied laces You know it could end up in tears - you know it could end up in tears don't go climbing icy mountains or jump about in slippery fountains don't swing on the velvet curtains You know it could end up in tears - you know it could end up in tears Please be sensible, please be wise and listen well to our advice if you do that would be nice You know it could save you from tears - you know it could save you from tears don't go swimming round with sharks or touch syringes in the park or fix electrics in the dark You know it could end - you know it could end up - You know it could end up in tears - you know it could end up in tears
