Story behind the song
On-going relationship between a man and his departed wife. Before she passed on, she tells him to look for her in the rain. He takes this quite literally, and pines for her whenever a storm blows in.
Lyrics
Chasin' The Rain ================ Verse 1 A blanket and the front steps, six o'clock this mornin'. Coulda stayed in my bed, list'nin' to the thunder's warnin'. Saw the lightnin' flashin', as the clouds came rollin' in. Had to hit the road, so I could chase the rain again. Chorus Chasin' the rain. I let her ride out on the wind, thought the storms could somehow lead her home again. When she's back in my arms, to wash away the pain, maybe I can stop chasin' the rain. Verse 2 Sat there on the shoulder, of Interstate 65. Shoulda never told'er, I was gonna be just fine. Since she flew to Heaven, dancin' in the wind, I listen for the storms, so I can chase the rain again. Chorus Chasin' the rain. I let her ride out on the wind, thought the storms could somehow lead her home again. When she's back in my arms, to wash away the pain, maybe I can stop chasin' the rain. Bridge Heard the wind a-whisp'rin', as it carried her away, promisin' she'd visit, with ev'ry drop of rain. Chorus Chasin' the rain. I let her ride out on the wind, thought the storms could somehow lead her home again. When she's back in my arms, to wash away the pain, maybe I can stop ... Repeat Chorus Chasin' the rain. I let her ride out on the wind, thought the storms could somehow lead her home again. When she's back in my arms, to wash away the pain, maybe I can stop chasin' the rain. Repeat A blanket and the front steps, six o'clock this mornin'. Shoulda stayed in my bed, list'nin' to the thunder's warnin'.
