This piece is a tone poem based on an Aztec legend of the two Mexican volcanoes, Popocatpetl and Iztacchuatl. Each volcano represents one of the protagonists of the legend Mixtli (Iztacchuatl) and Popoca (Popocatpetl). Special thanks to EastWest.

This legend was the inspiration I found for this tone poem of these two magnificent volcanoes in central Mexico. Originally written for concert band in 1996-7. Transcribed and arranged for orchestra in 2009.
