Story behind the song
This tune is one of those just messing around in the studio trying something new. A Box Drum that I built in the shop this past spring. I saw a folk concert on PBS and a dude was playing one of these and I wanted one! Looked online and found them then went and built one a wee bit different than those I read about. Thus the long drum solo at the end. This is a first recording just to test out the sound of the box drum. The lyrics are a story about a first cousin and my dad when I was in Vietnam. It didn't end quite like this but was a funny situation for all. Hope you enjoy.
Lyrics
MY LITTLE GARDEN George Collins Key of: G Bpm: Capo 2 Intro G C D Verse 1 I wanna go back to 62 to a little garden I once grew, back on my Daddy's farm. My old man told me all I need is a piece of land and some seeds and I could grow a garden too. Then I remembered I had some seeds, thought I'd grow me a little weed. Behind the barn down by the creek. Verse 2 For six long months I loved them so. As my little garden started to grow I felt like a brand new dad. Looking so pretty out there in the woods, in a little meadow where the tall pines stood. I planted me a couple dozen plants. Verse 3 Well nobody told me that the cops would haul off the whole damn crop and I'd get hauled off to jail. The county judge he was my uncle, when I got thirty days I didn't grumble. I was his brothers only son. Verse 4 Just one more week and I'll be free, back to that field they didn't see. Reaping exactly what I'd sowed. Now I know much and much I've seen but nothing like that Gainesville Green. Covered in the early morning dew. Chorus My friend "Tiny" said all I need are three chords and a key, piece of land and some seeds and I can write a song. Yes I can write a song, I can write a song.
