Story behind the song
1 Chron. 4:9-10 "And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that Thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Thine Hand might be with me, and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested." I listen to David Jeremiah's turning point program a lot. One month He was offering a sermon by Dr. Bruce Wilkinson called "A prayer to ignite your life". I ordered the tape and I thought the truths of that sermon could be presented in song form. This was long before Dr. Wilkinson's book "The prayer of Jabez" came out. I know in some circles the book has caught a lot of flack for seeming to promote a magical "genie in a bottle" mentality. I haven't read it but I don't think the sermon was insinuating that. I think more than anything it gets us to focus on the blessings that God gives us everyday, to watch for them and to thank Him for them. Anyway, enough preaching. Here's the song. I hope God does bless you, indeed!
Lyrics
God Bless Me, Indeed First Verse Jabez, from the tribe of Judah, in great pain was born He grew to be a man of honor, he walked with You Lord I have read about a prayer he prayed back there long ago I would like to borrow from it now and make one of my own I wanta' pray Chorus God bless me, indeed Give to me more ministry Touch the heart of everyone I see Keep Your Hand with me Keep evil far from me Won't you please, God bless me, indeed Second Verse When Jabez made his prayer to You, You granted his request I'm asking You to grant mine too, Lord I want Your best I know your blessings won't be meant for me alone Like a river running freely, I will let them flow I'm prayin' Repeat Chorus
