Story behind the song
this song was originally about this show i saw on ytv.. these baby sea turtles were born and they were trying to make it across this large beach - but all these pelicans, and other predators were snatching up the wee sea turtles - probably cuz they are a mini delicatessan or something.. it became such a blood bath, that the ytv hosts, ended up trying to help alot of the turtles make it to the ocean, by picking up as many as they could and carrying them to the sea... it was totally sad... but amazing, to see how..even after birth the chances of survival were so slim. that was the initial version, (pt I if you will) the second version is based on a similar concept, but with a bit more jostein gaarder inspiration thrown in.. still about chances.. chance to be here.... and despite all the shite sometimes.. it all how good that can be... also anyone who went to my highschool, will recognize the chorus, because it was a slogan that was graphiti'd (ok totally spelled that wrong) in the hall - it was permitted artistic graphiti, and was of this huge clock.. and it said "take your time, to make your mind up". Finally - i have to admitt, as a homage to the late elliott smith, I borrowed some words (altho perhaps not exactly) at the very end, it was in regards to the interviewer asking him why his music is always sad, and he replied something to the effect that it was so that the happiness counts. and that's swell.
Lyrics
scale these scissored green lawns.. over perfectly trimmed hedges and thorns up to a window sill - where time stands still and cuttlery wine and serviettes - await a dinner not served yet. so take - your time... to make... up your mind. take - your time ..... to make .. up your mind. as you trace these thoughts, back to the place where you once got caught... in this tireless net that hasn't freed you yet... and as it gently surrounds you... your ability to fight it subdued. and so you've learned to observe, the motions of those that couldn't make it seem easier. they ease through it with grace and finesse - as you continue about your awkward fumbling mess - and as the daylight begins you promise yourself you won't hold reservations, and solidify it like cement, this day is going to be different. so take - your time... to make... up your mind. take - your time ..... to make .. up your mind. how perfectly did the stars have to align, to allow this DNA to pass thru time and yet we have the audacity to sit here and whine... about a life that at times, might seem less than devine but that's still perfectly fine.. and isn't it amazing that you have yours, and i have mine.. this CHANCE to feel, rather than FEEL, nothing at all.. and true enough sometimes the sad - but only so the happiness - actually counts.
