track 09, the sad sad truth, however there are lots of people who could put it to better use than me, so if you have extra monies, please consider donating to the elliott smith memorial fund (see right)

Story behind the song
starts scratchy then explodes... you know - the old broke whining student routine.. but more seriously, it's about realising that all that materialistic bullshit we get fed each day from tv, magazines etc, can't compare with the kind of things that are free pleasures. I think you'll hear a bit of nick drake "i've been smokin too long" type influence in this song,... it definetley has a different bluesy feelin to it then other stuff i've done.. for that i almost considered not putting it on the album - then i counter-considered. (: lots of square words to ensure minimal radio play.
Lyrics
well i'm - i'm fuckn poor ain't got no - money on me at all.. and i'm - i'm fuckn broke... so any ideas of addictions just went up in smoke. but we can window shop all day long and eyeball this jukebox but not play the songs we can just wait for the next dollar to roll along... well i'm .. i'm fuckn poor can't even spare no change for the downtown people no more (and fuck they need it even more than i do ): ) well i'm ... i'm fuckn through just like these holes in my jeans, i've got some to match in my shoes we can window shop all day long and eyeball this jukebox but not play the songs we can just wait for the next dollar to roll along... and the greatest thing i always thought about us, was we didn't care for money or any of that fuss, we could just enjoy in the simplicity of each others own company sleeping in, till half past noon, as the sun filters in, falls into the room... slowly lights your face, creating memories i can't erase... we can window shop all day long and eyeball this jukebox but not play the songs we can just wait for the next dollar to roll along...(**we'll probably be waiting a while tho haha**)
