Story behind the song
Once Bitten (5:25) (R.Anderson, R.Smith, M.Sturgess) (c)RAAA International Productions / Rockaboy Songs / Polar Music New Zealand / Bourbonite Studio's 2007-2009 - Kenny Killz - Spoken Intro - Richard Anderson - Lead & Backing Vocals - Rob Smith - Spoken Word, Backing Vocals, Lead & Rhythm Guitars, Keyboards, Drum Programming - Matt Sturgess - Bass Guitar Vocal & Musical Arrangements: Rob Smith Written & Recorded at: Breakfree Studio's, Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand Polar Music New Zealand Studio's, Ratapiko, Taranaki, New Zealand Bourbonite Studio's, New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand Richard: The interesting thing for me with this song is that the lyric was one of my earlier works when writing for this album, I'd written literally over a 100 different ideas with a view to us picking and choosing what we would go with, so not everything I would be able to remember, so when Rob hauled out the title and lyric and told me I had written it I hadn't remembered but thought it was a good lyric (laughs). This is another one of my favourite tracks, it has a very solid rhythm and dare i say it? a commercial appeal that I think would go over nicely. I knew as soon as I heard this that I wanted to take dibs on the lead vocal for this one, Rob said he wrote the music with this in mind however (laughs). Rob: Another lyric that I thought had a great title. The song was written towards the end of the album, not an idea that we had early on, but I liked the fact that it rocked along nicley. I was always aware of having some good uptempo songs throughout the album, and I like the feel of this one. I was always looking for something that might suit Richard's voice, and so he ended up jumping in on this one, which is kinda strange as it is one of the more commercial tracks on the album, and you wouldn't call Richards voice commercial I don't think? but he brings his own unique qualities out on this one. It's a song that I find draws me in, the further it goes, and once the solo at the end kicks in, I'm drawn in even further, to the point that I'm rocking along at the end, kinda bitten like? Matt: Big hi to Kenny and Anita. Got a surprise when I heard this intro. Good to have humour on an album. Ya gotta smile don’t ya? This song takes ya for a wee ride as well. I agree with the boys when they say it has some commercial appeal but as you all may or may not know, we didn’t make this album for commercial reasons. We made it for our own reasons. The guitars at the end are a great out for the song and if you stop they keep in your head playing along.
