Story behind the song
I wrote this song with David Reuter. This was our first song together. We have many more songs in different stages right now, but this was our first. We were waiting for someone to demo this but we finally gave up waiting and just did it ourselves. David did the Guitar and I sang it. Please let us know what you think. We really are looking for ideas to help us improve our writing. Thanks for taking the time to listen!
Lyrics
This Piece of Land
Curt Collins and David Reuter
Verse 1
I could tell there was somethin019 on his mind
He just shook his head and looked me in the eye
He said daddy this way of livin019 ain019t for me
And I know it019s gonna kill you when I leave
I told him son you don019t understand
This farm is more than just some Piece of Land
It019s been our family019s home for over a hundred years
And some day you019ll learn that you belong right here
Pre-Chorus
It ain019t for me to say that leavin019 here019s wrong
Just remember a few things while you019re gone
Chorus
This piece of land019s fed our family every day
It gave us life and taught us why we pray
Our roots run deep into that ground right where you stand
You019ll always be a Piece of this Land
Verse 2
The flood in 01869 took the crops but we survived
Locusts turned the sky black in 01835
Lightnin019 struck the barn and burned it to the ground in 01822
But this piece of land has always pulled us through
Pre-Chorus
If what019s callin019 you away is so strong
Just remember a few things while you019re gone
Chorus
This piece of land019s fed our family every day
It gave us life and taught us why we pray
Our roots run deep into that ground right where you stand
You019ll always be a Piece of this Land
Bridge
I stood in that same spot thirty years ago
And told my own daddy that I had go
I only wish now that I could let him know
Chorus
This piece of land019s fed my family every day
It gave us life and taught us why we pray
Our roots run deep into this ground right where we stand
We019ll always be a Piece of this Land
Oh we019ll always be a Piece of this Land
