Fictional story about an old man on a subway trying to convince a young kid to believe in himself and chase his dreams while he's still young enough to do it. The old man is trying to save the kid from making the same mistakes he made.
Rock, pop, guitar rock, songwriter,
I'm a self-publishing songwriter actively looking for established artists to license and record my songs for major release. I have been writing songs for over 20 years, but have only recently begun to work on getting demos recorded. There are many more songs I'm working on that range from piano ballads to guitar rock, metal, pop and, to my surprise, even a country song. There are a ton of great songwriters out there, but when I listen to the radio, it seems to me that there are a lot of songs where the lyrics really aren't saying anything. In my humble opinion, the best songs are the ones that really use the music to pull the listener into the story of the song or the emotion the song is trying to convey. My songwriting philosophy is "Say something worth hearing".

Story behind the song
I wrote this song in just a few hours after finishing the Tony Robbins Get The Edge program. He has such a gift for helping people see and develop their potential and there are a lot of his philosophies injected in this song, but in my words. This was one of those songs that came so quickly and automatically that it just basically wrote itself. Those moments of zen are precious.
Lyrics
Believe me words and music by Steve Whitaker pardon me would you mind if I just thought out loud a spell ya see I've been around awhile I've seen heaven and hell I noticed that you brought your frown but you know what they say it's just upside down so forgive me if I offer you this song you're much too young to wear that jaded crown upon your head so don't you point those eyes below the sky again please believe me tomorrow never came to anyone who held a dream and let it fly away believe me everything you need was born in you the day you knew what you were meant to be please believe me I still remember sitting here about a hundred years ago I was sure I knew everything you think you know so I left my only friend behind that old guitar didn't even mind 'cause she probably found a better set of hands you're much too young to wear that jaded crown upon your head so don't you tell me that you're givin' up yet (chorus/solo) I'm sure by now you're wonderin' if this old man has lost his mind but priceless are the lessons learned in time so save yourself the misery unless your plan's to end up like me 'cause you're headed for that same old bitter end (chorus) you won't even see it fade you'll just wake up turning grey wonderin' where he went the man you meant to be please believe me
