Every time I catch myself thinking I have it rough
I remember those who came before
When I’m home from work and feel I’ve had enough
I think about the hardships they endured
I think back to the early 20th century
When America had an open door
Immigrants came by land and some came by sea
To start a new life as the working poor
Our grandparents struggled in a country that was new
Sometimes working night and day
A lot of us are lucky to live the way we do
Let’s not forget the price they had to pay
Thank you for your love
For showing us the way to rise above
The way you lived your life will always be
All the inspiration we’ll ever need
So thank you for your love
They fell in love and married in uncertain times
Took their vows and sealed it with a kiss
Renewed those vows again 50 years down the line
What a beautiful thing see true love like this
No time to dream of riches, while working hard for their keep
Had More important things in life to do
Like making sure the children always had a place to sleep
Clothes on their backs, schooling and good food
They looked at us and smiled remembering those years
While grandchildren are playing in the yard
Then there comes a day when they’re no longer here
Left a legacy of Love in our hearts
Thank you for your love
For showing us the way to rise above
The way you lived your life will always be
All the inspiration we’ll ever need
So thank you for your love
