Story behind the song
A Journey As our lives become more mechanized, digitized, electrified and synthesized; as the volume of the hassle, the hustle and the hype are turned up; we long for a quiet place of solitude to escape from our modern society of ever increasing numbers of people. The simple sound of a Native American flute or a waterfall or the wind brings us to that mystical world we all yearn for in the modern world. Turn off the noise and turn on the joy of a better place that we all need. As the trucks and cars, planes and trains velocitize our bodies; our souls need time to reminisce with Mother Earth. For us to be rooted in something other that Fifth Avenue or Hollywood... Come with me on a journey of the heart. To touch and feel, to hear and see the beauty, the wonder and the magic of the world that still surrounds us. Let us immerse ourselves in the love and timelessness of Nature that has never left us from the smallest creature to the vastness of the universe, from the simplest sound to the most intricate harmonies of life. For this wisdom, we thank the Great Spirit. Spirit John de boer The Journey Home – Ash Cave The journey to Ash cave was for my spirit and was wonderful like going home. My good friend Chobeka Equiwa a Shawnee Storyteller was there and showed me the petroglyphs in the rocks at the cave. She told me many stories about the cave I did not know. She lives a mile from Ash Cave and knows a lot about the plants and history of the area. I was so fortunate to have her as a guide and friend. Raven and White Dove had to work and could not make the journey to our grandfather’s home. As I started to play the flute for the ancient ones people gathered around in a great circle and were intrigued by the wonderful sounds the cave makes when you play the native flute there. I played and talked all day until the sun went down. The spirits were all around me and filled my heart with song. The clouds and the fog in my mind disappeared and my vision became clear. More songs and thoughts on the new album crystallized and my spiritual journey cleansed my soul. Later I ate at Chobeka's with friends and her family. All the company was good as the flute played on into the evening. I was given gifts of magic for my medicine bag. It was a good day something my soul needed a part of my history, a part of my destiny and my fate.
