It's a story of a man being pulled out to Sea. His hope fades as the shore gets further and further away.
Story behind the song
I was on a web site full of effect pedals some guy in england had built himself. One was a Tremlo pedal built out of a couple of old tubes. It sounded incredible. So I started playing with my line 6 trying to recreate the sound and riff in the chorus was the result. From there the song grew into a story about a man hopelessly adrift at sea.
Lyrics
Verse 1
I walking alone down on the sandy beach
When a big wave came and knocked me off my feet
I was pulled out into the sea so cold and so blue
I yelled, I screamed, I swam but there was nothing I could do
Chorus
I’m drifting, I’m drifting, I’m drifting out to sea
As the land gets further and further out of reach
I’m floating, I’m floating, I’m floating away
And I’m my hope gets smaller and smaller every day
Verse 2
I was swimming far from shore desperate to stay afloat
When I saw the mast of a great white sailing boat
I waved my arms and screamed “Please, I need your help”
But the captain could not stop I’ll have to save myself”
Bridge 1
Darkness has settled in on this quiet lonely night
The only lights I see are the stars up in the sky
Somewhere in the distance is the land I know
As the current pulls me deeper down below
Bridge 2
There’s no one here but me
As I sink deeper into the sea
The water getting colder and colder now
And my lungs are burning as I drown
Bridge 3
I know there’s no one to save me
Down here at the bottom of the sea
I feel the darkness encroaching
Now death is coming for me
