Pulsing electronica with 'digital-chipmunk' vocal effects. What am I talking about? Listen to the song and find out!
Techno. Nonsense song names. It's like video game music. It's really better if you just try it, then you know what I'm talking about.
Hi! I'm me, I'm the only one who can be me, and I'm proud of me! Dangit, those motivational tapes weren't worth $#@&! How about I go cry in the corner, and you listen to my awesome and perfectly competent music until I'm done?
Story behind the song
It all started with an episode of Look Around You, when the Harrington 5000 composed the song "Little Mouse." Among the crazy zoom effects in the composition sequence, there was a red light labeled attack. Thus, "the light of attack." There was a vocal effect I wanted to try, and I tested it in here. It was all-around great, and far more danceable than most of my stuff.
Then I went through my regular depression/frustration cycle, internally becoming temporarily bitter and cynical, but retaining all my outward charm. I needed some way to relieve my causeless stress, so I took it out on this song, writing lyrics that exaggerate some of my worst character dualism and other defects by several thousandfold.
Along came spring break, and everything became too nice to keep working on this song without expending lots of effort. However, after spending several days trying to get Synthedit to do things it ought to be able to do but arbitrarily won't, I finished a VST effect plugin and had enough built-up general resentment to convince myself to continue. From there I just tweaked it until I got in the mood, and composing became easy again. In fact, I not only finished it, but I vastly improved the parts I had already "finished." And yes, Mom, it's got lots of distortion, and you just complained yesterday about how my songs have too much, but I already had a good portion of the song done weeks ago. Next song I do from scratch, I will challenge myself to have no distortion.
Lyrics
Do you see the little light blinking?
It is the light of attack.
Decay, sustain and release are i-re-le-vant.
The wiring is all out of whack.
What do you get from an angry machine?
Your arms want to run, and your eyes want to scream.
I don't want your money. I don't want your fame.
All that I want is to make you insane.
Chorus {
Get out there and dance like you mean it.
If you don't my circuits fail.
Get out there and dance all your feet off.
I can already hear my motherboard wail.
I don't care if I don't make it through the night.
I just don't want to die alone.
I don't care if I don't make it through the night.
I just don't want to die alone.
}
Another strain is already mutating.
Starting up a fever that will make you crack.
Oscillating between preset normalities,
My wiring is all out of whack.
HOW CAN I BE SUCH AN ANGRY MACHINE?!
One moment I love you, then I want you to bleed.
I don't know the answer, or just who to blame,
But I'd give my left ADSR to not be insane.
Okay, I admit I lied,
'Cuz I'm messed up inside.
But I just couldn't bear
anyone getting hurt.
I self-encapsulate,
Even though the one I hate,
Is the only person in the room.
But I want you to know,
Every thing I do... I do for you (for you).
{Chorus}
I don't care if I don't make it through the night.
I just don't want to die alone.
I just don't want to die alone.
