Heavy ass jam. Enjoy.
Xanthus never expected things to get so out of hand. When formed as a five-piece in the summer of 2000, we had no experience, no vision, and no motivation. After seeing the workings of the local scene, we quickly began to catch on and promote ourselves relentlessly. Now, after a line-up change for the best, we have played countless shows in the Chicago area and have released two demos. With a solid fan-base on the south side and in the south suburbs, our young nu-metal / aggro-rock band draws great crowds at all of our shows. Our influences include Diecast, Zao, Pantera, Incubus, Deftones, From Zero, Slayer, Factory 81, Chimaira, Machinehead, System of a Down and Sevendust. Our musical style reflects these groups, but can not be pinned down as sounding just like any of them. With the release of our latest 3-song demo in January 2002 (recorded at Uptown Recording, produced, engineered, mixed, and recorded by Jett and Rob Likey of From Zero), we hope to bring greater success and more fans. Xanthus's main goal is to give all of the fans of heavy music something original to listen to. Our investment in sound as opposed to image is an attempt to do exactly this: maintain belief that some people really are in this for the music. Xanthus also wishes to draw people away from the 7-string sporting, Starbucks drinking, daddy bought me a Beamer nonsense that is entirely too prominent in the local scene. Mostly, we hope to get our music out there for people to hear. To achieve this, our goals for 2002 are building upon an already large fan base, playing more and larger shows, and releasing an EP by fall. Hopefully you fit into some part of this plan and are willing to help. Thank you for your time.
