Story behind the song
This song was written in 20 minutes during my lunch break at work. The story behind it that some I know fell on the ice while getting out of her truck. She really messed up her shoulder pretty badly, and got really bruised up too. I have done the same thing while getting out of my SUV and slipping on the icy side foot rails. I ended up under the vehicle pretty banged up. Winter time actually suck here in New England and really long. It’s only a matter of time before you go down on your ass. The chorus part kinda came from my girl friend trying to pack mule groceries into the house, making one trip. I have told her many times to make 2 trips.
Lyrics
Down East Maine Song (Don’t Drop the Booze) - Mikeo Feb 27th 2009 Now it’s still winter up here in Maine And for the most part I can’t complain But those folks in TX will never know What it’s like, to shovel 2 feet of snow Now getting around may not be easy But we got snowmobiles and SUV’s and you’ll want something with 4 wheel drive That can take the potholes, by late spring time Now living up here, we have our reasons But sure the hell isn’t black fly season Don’t tell the folks from New Hampshire There’s anything past Portland Maine It ain’t half bad, in the summertime some days you can sit pool side but the waters cool, but don’t tell the folks from Boston There’s anything past Hampton Beach chorus But when you walking on the ice up here Carrying more than two 12 packs of beer Honeys make two trips if you have too and remember wear your LL Bean boots But please what ever you do, don’t drop the booze The president had a summer resort Somewhere up in Kennebunkport When he came to town It was all first class, and high security But there are a couple bars here in town Only the locals know about After work, before heading home They go there to drink They still call it happy hour 2 for one deals, served with a bowl chowder And everyone there Knows you by your name The dress code is, jeans and working boots You’ll look like a freak, anyway, in a business suit By the way ya talk They’ll know you’re from out of state Chorus What ever ya do, don’t drop the booze
