LIFE IS A DANCE
(c) 2009 - G. Smith / K. Reardon
-------------------------
She turned eighty-seven last summer, her mind still as sharp as a tack,
She took a hard fall in the downstairs hall, that put her flat on her back.
Still she managed a smile, and told us all tales as we sat with her next to her bed;
Some made us laugh, some made us cry, but I'll always remember these words that she said,
"Life is a dance between choices and chance,
A two-step between free will and fate.
It lasts a brief hour, with no time for wall-flowers,
So take the floor before it's too late"
By twenty-two she'd been married four years, with three babies and a husband at war;
But with blood, sweat, and tears, she prayed through her fears for what the good Lord had in store.
Grandpa came home and they loved and they fought, and they raised up their daughters and son;
And the grandkids would play through the long summer days,
Still she said...
"Life is a dance between choices and chance,
A two-step between free will and fate.
It lasts a brief hour, with no time for wall-flowers,
So take the floor before it's too late,"
The music slows...
We know that it will...
The melody changes and...
The band grows still...
"Life is a dance between choices and chance,
A two-step between free will and fate.
It lasts a brief hour, with no time for wall-flowers,
So take the floor before it's too late,
This dance is yours,
So take the floor before it's too late.
