(Oh! for a dirty brass section and sorry about the reverb...) Kinda reggae/hip-hop influenced but not sounding like either much. Slow-grooving, big sounding social commentary.

Cactus Juice isn't a band, it's a name for all the bits and pieces I do that don't fit into any other project. I'm a musician, not an engineer, so no apologies for the sound quality. Check out for an earlier, totally different experience of thrashy acoustics and overdriven mandolin.

Story behind the song
This was written about the last recession, and compares the criminals who get caught with the ones who don't. This shouldn't need any further elaboration right now... Thanks to Andy Baxter for the (tasty!) Strat licks and swells.
Lyrics
CRIMEWAVE (c) 1994 D Clee | Em / Am / | -- Bass, 4 bars -- -- groove, 8 bars -- -- run-in, 4 bars -- The guns they bristle and the blood runs free, Bombs exploding in my own country, A man points his gun at another man's head And shoots him dead. (shot down in his prime) (shot down in his prime) We're breathing up the smog that the city breathes, Killing the whales, cutting down the trees, The sun pours in through a great big hole, We've lost control, (have we got enough time?) We've lost control. (have we got enough time?) (chorus) Don't you think it's a crime, | F / G / | F / C G | Don't you think it's a crime? | Am / F / | Am / C G | Don't you think it's a crime, | F / G / | F / C G | Don't you think it's a crime? | Am / F / | Am / F / | | Em / Am / | -- brass, 8 bars -- The country's in recession And everybody's broke And everywhere you look It's going up in smoke. But the financial cowboys running the show, They're rolling in dough (don't you think it's a crime), They're rolling in dough (don't you think it's a crime). -- chorus -- Don't you think it's a crime, | F / G / | F / C G | Don't you think it's a crime? | Am / F / | Am / C G | Don't you think it's a crime? | F / G / | F / C G | Don't you think it's a crime? | Am / F / | Am / F / | | Em / Am / | -- brass, 4 bars -- -- +solo, 4 bars -- Miscarriages of justice make headline news And ordinary people get their rights abused, You know they're gonna bring back hanging some day So get on your knees and pray - We're talkin' about... Food mountains and subsidies, The rise and fall of the economy, While countries starve to keep the prices high While millions die (don't you think it's a crime), While millions die (don't you think it's a crime), While millions die (don't you think it's a crime), While millions die (don't you think it's a crime). -- solo, 8 bars -- -- +brass, 8 bars -- -- stop -- -- run-in, 4 bars -- It's no use pretending we're an island in the sun Because the world spins round and the daylight's Moving on (don't you think it's a crime). (don't you think it's a crime) It's no use pretending we're an island in the sun Because the world spins round and the daylight's Moving on (don't you think it's a crime). Moving on (don't you think it's a crime). Moving on (don't you think it's a crime). Moving on.
