Story behind the song
The title is a dig on the "Wow! Philippines!" slogan of the Department of Tourism. They've been promoting our country as a tourist heaven with all of its beaches, centuries-old monuments, and other scenic locations. But the reality of life in the Philippines is in no way even remotely as picturesque as what the government would have foreign visitors believe. On the other side of the fence, 70% of the population live in varying degrees of poverty while the political and economic elite (who comprise only 10% of the population) continue to amass wealth and power at the expense of the majority. According to the latest international surveys, the Philippines ranks as the MOST CORRUPT COUNTRY in ALL of ASIA. Welcome to our paradise islands!
