I'm a singer-songwriter, so, for the most part I peddle my songs alone. When I do play with others, I most often play with my husband, Barry Crannell. We call ourselves Heart and Hammer.

Story behind the song
Barry and I were in traveling in Texas and I kept seeing my father in the men that I met there. One morning while Barry was showering, I wrote this song and had a good cry.
Lyrics
Lone Star © 2002 Julianna Waters This is the land of my father, where the oil fields stretch for hours And the cotton rows lay out for miles and miles And the drawl is not lazy But it swims beneath the language Like the thirsty roots of lilies in a pond. The leather belts all tooled and carved with buckles of lone stars And the worn and dusty toes of aging boots Are like the ones that held my father’s footsteps Through my years of childhood And the greatest grandest canyon on them all. I can see my father walking, like a mirror in the gentlemen That grace and bless this land that he called home And it is not until this moment That I recognized a culture That helped define my father to the bone A southern Texas man he was, entitled in a way That only other Texans understand And perhaps born of the empty space Between each little town and place Was the greatest grandest canyon of them all. I am a lone star, a northern girl And I have traveled far To find my father’s little corner of the world. Instrumental I am a lone star, a northern girl And I have traveled far To find my father’s little corner of the world. This is the land of my father, where the oil fields stretch for hours And the cotton rows lay out for miles and miles And perhaps born of the empty space Between each little town and place Was the greatest grandest canyon of them all. And perhaps born of the empty space Between each little town and place Was the deepest canyon of them all.
