Story behind the song
In 1996, in a songwriting slump, I decided one day that I needed a project... I was looking for something simple and poppy and, since I was sitting in my favorite coffee hangout, it occurred to me that there were just about enough female baristas currently on staff to supply the names for a concept album... with the help of a little turnover while I was writing the songs, I was able to get 10 songs out and this is one. The intent wasn't to write about the actual women -- a point which I had to make endlessly to a string of boyfriends and husbands -- but rather just to use their name as starting points. Still, the girl for whom this song was named said that it was "so me." It's funny, I didn't think so. Who is to say who was right?
