Everything’s Different But Nothing Has Changed © 2010 Greg Swartzentruber/John Lobello Almost seems like yesterday You sat up there homecoming game Farrah hair and Disco jeans I threw passes for the high school team Futures float on autumn air Now we’re here and they are there I guess they are a lot like us Teenaged dreamers hoping for so much The deja vu's a little strange Everything’s different but nothing has changed Years ago your dad stood here His eyes a mix of joy and fear Yet he said those words out loud Gave you to me - I was so proud Now’s my turn to fill his space Give our daughter to find her place In the arms of her true love I pray for strength from God above How’d it all get rearranged? Everything’s different but nothing has changed You can’t swim in the same river twice Even if you swim there every day of your life The organ plays Amazing Grace My father’s final resting place Beside the box I say a prayer Release his spirit into God’s care I know the day will quickly come When this task falls upon my son I only pray that he’ll have learned As life moves on and pages turn Still there’s a truth that remains Everything’s different but nothing has changed
