Story behind the song
This poem was inspired by my childhood in the country backwoods of Greenwood, Ms. I always wanted to know why things were the way they were, always wondered why adults do what they do, talk the way they talk, and live the way they live, and how come adults neva answered a kid's question so a kid could overstand thangs, ya dig?
Lyrics
Wanna Be/Jis Me Written 2/7/04 Why ya wanna be sum tin ya not? Why ya wanna be more an wut cha is? Why ya try an live like the Jones, When ya know ya broke and ain't got a Pot to pis in or a winda ta throw it out of. Why ya just don't be ya sef, Why ask why, jis be I jis gonna be me cuz me jis 1, Afta all dat sed an dun, I tank it time ta hab me sum fun. Til next time jis be ya sef and be gud ta ya sef. Yall come back nah yah hear! Is it you or is it me, Is it them or is it you, Is it he or is it she, Is it her or is it him, Is it us or is it we, Tell me who, Tell me where, Tell me why, Tell me when, Show me who, Show me them, Show me her, Show me him, How, Who, What, When, Where, is it Already?????!!!!! Poetry is an outlet for me. Words are free and cost nothing. I have the right to express myself and chose to do it thru art otherwise known as poetry in motion. Waste not a word saying something that can inspire, motivate, stimulate, cultivate, and educate an individual’s intellect. Most of my poems are inspired by experience, judgment/stereotypes; thus I can appreciate difference. It is what makes the World go round. i.e. a clock, there wouldn’t be a toc without a tic; thus tic toc! By: Empress Malaa’ika (Angelic Messenger)
