Melancholy

This is a G Minor piece that explores 'Melancholy' in both its meanings of either sad/depressed or somber/thoughtful.
[the following is copied and pasted from my main page] As a composer, I'm pretty much a composer on the side. When I have an idea, I write it down and go with it, but I don't focus all my musical energy into being a composer. I actually go through phases, or "seasons" as I would call if, of composing. I may compose very solidly for a few months on end and then not compose a thing for months on end. I am very much passionate about the compositions I do write. I also begin virtually every composition with pencil and staff paper, only transferring it onto an electronic medium (such as MakeMusic(tm)/Finale(tm)) as it becomes a finished product.

Story behind the song
"Melancholy" can mean either sad/depressed or somber/thoughtful; this piece's title implies both. Many of the themes frequently reappear in subtle variation. When the opening theme comes back "yet again!" in measure 85, it would seem to be on the verge of overkill were it not actually a Coda of sorts. MM. 91, 92 are best described as Romantic tonality built on the foundation of a Blues ending. The last three measures of the piece have a typical Classical feel. The bass/treble alternation slows the piece down to provide a suitable and yet simple ending to a piece which certainly has its hectic moments, all the while keeping things "melancholy" to the very end.
