My oldest friend RZ and I meet regularly for lunch, which is the only time we see each other. We don't otherwise socialize or visit one another's homes. We've remained friends this long either in spite of it or because of it.
On a technical note, the music was a bear to recreate. One surprise while studying the original was hearing an accordian in the arrangement. For you fans of music trivia, interwoven in the ending are "In the Mood" and "Greensleeves". For good measure I included reference to two of RZ's own compositions, "Resume" and "Natalie Sue".
Mentioned in the lyrics is 'recording a Rick and Ron'. This refers to a series of musical skits we've also done over the years, called "Rick and Ron at Lunch". (Yes, we have too much time on our hands.)
Lyrics
(Lunch, lunch, lunch)
There's nothing we can eat that isn't food
Nowhere where the waitress isn't rude
Nothing here to cook but I can always go out for a bite
With RZ
Nowhere we can go that isn't gone
No way to record a Rick and Ron
Nothing we can sing because we don't have a song to record
On CD
All we eat is lunch...
Lunch is all we eat
There's nothing you can buy that can't be bought
Burn a DVD and you'll get caught
Nothing on TV because I don't like American Idol
It's sleazy
All we eat is lunch...
Lunch is all we eat.
