A father's perspective on his daughter growing up.
acoustic folk country lai
Lyricist on an endless quest for the perfect melody.
I'm afraid I can't claim to be a band, although I have been known to jump on a bandwagon from time to time. No, I'm just a humble lyricist who is in absolute awe of the composers who have stumbled into my life and bothered to wrap a melody around some of my words. I've been attempting to legitimately call myself a lyricist since I was about 14 years old. Have a listen, won't you, and let me know if I qualify.

Lyrics
The Hardest Truth © 2008 Greg C. Brown/Barry Crannell I look out the kitchen window At the quiet, empty yard. It used to be loud with laughter And never seemed so large. That little girl’s off at college, I’m still here on the coast. Swallowed by the silence That’s what hurts the most. There’s a swing set standing alone, Every day it’s gathering rust, And there’s an ache inside my heart That isn’t fair or just. Time was bound to steal her youth, That’s the hardest truth. Autumn leaves have started falling But I don’t have the heart to rake An ocean of brown and yellow Piled up beside the gate. And as I look for memories, I hunger for the noise Of childhood squeals and giggles; That little girl’s voice. On the swing set standing alone Every day it’s gathering rust, There’s a void within my soul That I cannot fill up. Time was bound to steal her youth, That’s the hardest truth. BRIDGE I barely remember the child, Wondering eyes, an innocent smile. Now she’s making the world her own, I suppose I should have known It’s a swing set standing alone Every day it’s gathering rust, And there’s an ache inside my heart That isn’t fair or just. Time was bound to steal her youth, And for me, that’s the hardest truth Time was bound to steal her youth, That’s the hardest truth
