Story behind the song
This song was inspired by a Sci-Fi series, "Firefly", that ran one year and was canceled. It was a great series, a post civil war Western set in the future, but Fox TV completely screwed it up, by running the episodes out of order and constantly changing the time and day it was on. As an example, the original pilot was aired after all of the other episodes. Fans of the show call themselves Browncoats, and rallied to get a movie sequel made. Due largely to the rabid nature of the Browncoats viral lobbying, eventually, a movie was made, "Serenity" (the name of the ship), which tied up some of the loose ends left by the series. Also, some comics have been released and more stuff is forthcoming. The words of the song will probably be meaningless to anyone who hasn’t seen the series and/or movie. Those people should really rent or buy the DVD’s of both series and movie; they would not be disappointed. In this song, the first verse expresses the desire of the singer to be a Browncoat and go on adventures with the Serenity’s crew, mentioning each crew member’s name. The second verse mentions some of the villains that the crew had to deal with. The last words of the song, “What was that?” are the last words spoken in the movie, "Serenity"
Lyrics
I Wanna Be A Browncoat by Famous Patrick 11/02/2008 The experts are distressed by this economic mess And I confess I get depressed by all these sad guys When the Wall Street wheeler-dealing Makes my eyes roll to the ceiling Then I start feeling, “Shiny! Let’s be bad guys!” I wanna be a browncoat on Serenity With Wash and Zoe, Jayne and Mal. I’d have breakfast daily with Inara, Book and Kaylee To River Tam and Simon I would be a Pal We’d have stolen goods that Badger would buy from us Boil the sea but you can’t take the sky from us. I wanna be a browncoat on a Firefly With the crew of the Serenity I’d be a Big Damn Hero on Serenity The Reavers wouldn’t scare me none We’d kick Niska’s heinie Now, wouldn’t that be shiny And don’t forget the Blue Hands and Blue Sun We’ll convert the Operative won’t that be nice Shoot Dobson in the goram eye. Hell! Shoot him twice. I wanna be a browncoat on a Firefly With the crew of the Serenity Repeat 1st Verse Show your defiance The crew of the Serenity Dodge the Alliance The crew of the Serenity Can’t stop the signal The crew of the Serenity … What was that?
