Story behind the song
I Am A Leaf On The Wind This is a good song; I think that this is the best song that I wrote for this contest. Unfortunately, I put way to much reverb on the vocal and guitar, and I didn’t have enough time to do the kind of job on the lead guitar that I would have liked. I am going to remix and re-record the lead and I think it will be a pretty good song. However, to be honest about the 11/30 limit, I am leaving it on for the NaSoAlMo album. I had just finished writing Booker T. Bird, I Wanna Be A Browncoat, and Ladies’ Night for NaSoAlMo, and I didn’t have a good idea for the next song. My wife suggested a song about motorcycle riding, one of our passions. I told her that I wanted to write a motorcycle song, but I didn’t want to rush it, like I would have to do for NaSoAlMo. I had watched several episodes of the Sci Fi series, "Firefly" over the weekend, so it was on my mind. In the movie sequel to the series, "Serenity", Wash (Hoban Washburn) is called upon to make a nearly impossible landing; while performing the maneuver, he repeats a mantra, “I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar.” His final delivery of this line is extremely memorable (you should watch the series and the movie.). The lyrics speak to the way that, at a certain point, you lose the distinction of where you end and the bike begins; the bike becomes an extension of your body and personality. It truly feels a lot like you are flying. The last line of the last verse, “They are tattooed on my skin” is not literally true. I have three tattoos, but this phrase is not among them, though someday it might be. Enjoy!
Lyrics
I Am A Leaf On The Wind By Famous Patrick 11/04/2008 I was built for comfort / Never knew the need for speed I’m a full-dress police special / I’ve got everything I need I am half a ton of muscle, steel and rubber / listen how I roar And the eagle is my kin / I am a leaf on the watch how I soar Chorus: I am a leaf on the wind watch how I soar I am a leaf on the wind watch how I soar I am Milwaukee metal magic / I am Truth upon two wheels I am a leaf on the wind watch how I soar You’d have to feel if for yourself / there’s no way I can explain When I’m poundin’ down the two lane / something liberates my brain When I put my face into the wind / It’s like I just walked out a prison door And I won’t go back in / I am a leaf on the wind watch how I soar Chorus Solo on Chorus My jacket is brown leather / and my bike is chrome and white When I lean into the curve / I am like a hawk in flight Brother Washburn preached this wisdom / and his words I can’t ignore They are tattooed on my skin / I am a leaf on the wind watch how I soar Chorus Chorus
