Story behind the song
Everyone needs an ultimate fantasy... We had so much fun recording this one. Ed's first take of the solo section at the end was so perfect. Jim and I thought we'd play a trick on him. We said oh that take was not his best but try and just redo the ideas, cause they were good, just play with more feeling... "make love to the track" ha ha. Ed was perplexed, cause I was so easy to work with up until that point, I always liked everything. Ed had just been complaining about a previous session a few days ago where this lady couldn't decide what she wanted, and wasn't articulate in musical terms... she'd say things like "sound more lavender" or "make love to the track"--- what?!? working with her was a nightmare he said. So after the second take, of course Ed couldn't replicate what he had done...and the track was totally different...but I said that one was a perfect shade of lavender and he could stop. Then he got it that we were messing with him. Since we knew he couldn't have possibly recreated the first awesome take, we thought the only way to get him to do a sort of Derek and the Dominos Eric & Duane back and forth was to trick him. The first and second take together was a magical combination - it might not really be "lavender" - but it is really awesome!
