singer/songwriter/guitarist/solo act. Seamlessly melding country, blues, and folk
Jamey Darnold is a singer/songwriter/guitarist/ solo act originally from the banks of the Mississippi river town of Burlington, Ia. He has released to his credit 13 full length albums that seamlessly meld country, blues, and folk styles spanning from 2004's "Burlington Bound.. a railroad town" to 2023's "The Running River". He is influenced by up and coming Americana artist such as "Jason Isbell" to the folk rock classics of "The Eagles", and Neil Young. His strongest assets are in the singing and songwriting styles portrayed. Life's lessons endured by what makes the American dream real. The byproducts from growing up in rural Iowa and then leaving... to experience life without boundary's on America's endless trail of concrete. Now residing in rural Kane county Illinois and armed with only guitar and harmonica. He can hold audiences "young and old" and will invite you to listen, enjoy, and to reflect on all His multi-generational/ genre music styles.

Story behind the song
Recorded for Potbelly's "Christmas for kids" Christmas album. I was asked along with all the other Musicians to donate a song for all the Potbellys sandwich shops in Northern Illinois. Lyrics written by my Sister Rosie Clare. Thank you Rosie for the help!
Lyrics
"If I were an elf" When I grow up I want to be an Elf If I can make toys for Santa wear curly-toed shoes And pointy big ears If I can make toys for Santa When I grow up I want to be an Elf If I can make toys for Santa I'll sleep in little beds And wear a cap on my head If I can make toys for Santa When I grow up I want to be an Elf If I can make toys for Santa I'll trim Santa?s tree His boots will shine from me If I can make toys for Santa When I grow up I want to be an Elf If I can make toys for Santa I'll sort out all of his mail I'll brush the reindeers tail If I can make toys for Santa When I grow up I want to be an elf If I can make toys for Santa I'll make sugars cookies free And bring warm milk for thee If I can make toys for Santa If I can make toys for Santa If I can make toys for Santa If I can make toys for Santa Rosie Clare Powell November 6, 2008

Howdy Jamey, I'm so sorry....I thought I had commented on this quite some time ago! I dropped into the comments to see what else had transpired and couldn't find any comment from me. Maybe, I had written before I had quite SC before and hadn't re-commented.....anyway, I'm so sorry for my lack of response. You and your sister, (Ms. Rosie) make a write good team!!!!! I love how you tied the verses together!!!!! The guitar work you've nutured here is extraordinary, a remarkable string of vocalizations by your talented self and the melody is perfect for the style the lyrics represent, plus the tamborine work is just like baby bear soup.......it's just right!!!!!!! Ms. Rosie wrote some mighty fine lyrics, btw!!!!!!This would have been a great addition for a dream sequence in the Will Ferrell movie, Elf!!!!!!!! Respectfully, and once again I apologize.... Wade

Well, you have done it again! Writing music is so natural for you. The bells were perfect and the '0-0-0-0-0's' were exactly what the lyrics needed to connect. Have you heard all of Potbelly's CD yet? Wonder if they have a web site.....I'll have to google their site. I'm healing okay I guess.......just seems so slow! I'm frustrated with how long everything takes me to do. But it could have been SO much worse, so I am thankful. Take care brother! Great job on the song!! Rosie Clare
