Propelled by VH1's hit show "Bands on the Run," Josh Dodes has developed a loyal national following for his unique style of high-energy, piano-based pop-rock. His critically-acclaimed debut "Get Up" ("****... a surprisingly accomplished debut album" - All Music Guide) was voted one of the top 5 CDs of the year by the worldwide customer base of online record giant CD Baby. Josh has built upon this success through regular touring - he has played venues such as Irving Plaza and Bowery Ballroom (NYC), Camden Yards (Baltimore), The Tabernacle and The Cotton Club (Atlanta), The Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), and House of Blues (Boston) - and airplay on independent and commercial radio stations across the U.S. In the past two years, he has opened for Avril Lavigne, Pat Benatar, Duncan Sheik, The B-52's, Alana Davis, BBMak, and funk legend Maceo Parker (who asked Josh to do some touring as his organist!). Based in Burlington, VT, Josh routinely plays to riveted audiences throughout the entire Northeast. Fueled by fan favorites such as "Be My Friend, But Be Naked," which fans have pushed to #1 on MP3.com’s AAA chart, Josh's high-octane live show has been a major element of his evolution from NYC local favorite to an emerging national act. Josh has just released his latest full-length album, "Freak," which industry insiders are already calling his best yet. Website Discography Radio: "Be My Friend, But Be Naked" (college/AAA), "American Angel" (college/AAA) Singles from "Freak" will go to college and AAA stations this winter. Check for chart news!

Story behind the song
Started out as a metaphor for how I write, but the greedy bastard took over. How do you like that?
Lyrics
Mug I got banana in a mug and I'm gonna chug Till I'm wide awake and I'm bouncing 'cross the rug To my happy keyboard slappin', it's like a drug Well, this monkey's got it fine Just roll out of bed! And I scratch my head! Why? Cause I got time, time, time, time Got no place to be! And my boss is me! And everything's fine, fine, fine, fine Some folks may say That's it's not okay To spend my days Strapped in this way But I got to work it out Run, run Runnin' on like a Shakespeare monkey Just a matter of time Runnin' on like a shakespeare monkey What's my line? Runnin' on like a shakespeare monkey Typing suits me fine I've got, "to be or not to be that is the Kum...quat..." Huh? what? Nuts! All the other monkeys from the study, they think I'm nuts They say "The experiment is over, you're a putz You're a monkey, dammit, no ifs, ands or buts" They say, "It's just a waste of your time" Just roll out of bed! And scratch my head! Why? Why? 'Cause I got time, time, time, time Got no place to be! And my boss is me! And everything's fine, fine, fine, fine Some folks may say That's it's not okay To spend my days Strapped in this way But I got to work it out Run, run (Chorus) Don't know why I love the typing life I just can't help myself Don't know why I never found a monkey wife I left the vine to go Back to my Smith-Corona ways 'Cause I had no other way to say I ain't no Romeo But I can spell him fine (A little typing time....)
