Story behind the song
I ran across a picture of an Angel dropping feathers and the first thought on finding it was what would happen if the Angel had NO more feathers to drop, because they symbolized all that was good to me. That’s when I started writing the poem and my purpose was to show that there was good in the world. If everyone would just take a look deep within themselves and find that good and bring it to the surface, what a world this would be. My imagination carried me but my heart told me what to write. This song would still be just another poem had it not been for the wonderful talent of a very dear friend Marvin Lane, who took my words as well as his own and transformed them into something that begged for a melody. He is a guy who writes from the heart and people listen
Lyrics
Don’t Let the Feather Hit the Ground
Verse
As I walked the busy street
Saw a homeless man standing there
Just turned my head and walked on
It wasn’t my place to care!
But from the corner of my eye
Within my peripheral view
Saw an Angel drop a feather
What was I supposed to do?
Chorus
The feather came from her wing
As she pulled it out
She whispered softly in my ears
Don’t let the feather hit the ground
Verse
I walked a little farther
Saw a trembling child in tears
That wasn’t my concern!
The Angel then appears
I watched that feather float free
Drifting slowly to the ground
Tears fell upon her rosy cheeks
The angel wore a frown
Chorus
The feather came from her wing
As she pulled it out
She whispered softly in my ears
Don’t let the feather hit the ground
Verse
I grabbed the feather in the air
Walked over where she stood
She looked at me and said
Deep inside there’s still some good
Each time you turn your back
A feather then floats free
Now look upon my Angel’s face
And tell me what you see
Ending Verse
I was staring at myself
The meaning became so clear
If that last feather had fallen
All the good would disappear
Upon my knees I prayed to God
Forgive this sinner please
There’ll be no more dropped feathers
To drift upon the breeze
Chorus
The feather came from her wing
As she pulled it out
I closed my eyes, I heard her sing
You saved the feather from hitting the ground
