I thought I'd just post my thoughts.
Story behind the song
I recently participated in my first "jam" session in over 10 years. There was something about the way the musicians played that gave me the inspiration to write the music for this song.
The lyrics started out being about a personal experience, but I quickly got stuck. I got help from a friend who ended up writing about her own situation. Her lyrics were so powerful, that I just tweaked them and added some more to make clearer what we both were trying to say.
Lyrics
Chorus(You don't have to be afraid. You don't have to run, can't hide from. You don't have to be afraid.)
A thousand words can't say it. A thousand words can't make it OK. Too good to be true, turned true.
I breathe but I'm suffocating
I should leave but I'm waiting on me just to listen.
Why you tryin' to give me this. Hear this
Chorus
(My love, so true)
I'm here but I'm far away, didn't I say I will
I'm not ashamed of what I have become
If I run, I run into me
close my eyes, but I still see
I know I love me that much
Comforting me. Whisper in my ear. Comforting me
(Like an old song that you used to be. Like the warm place only you see)
Whispering something. Whispering something in my ear. Comforting me.
(Like an old song that you used to be. Like the warm place only you see)
Be afraid
