Lyrics
Mother's Prayer
My son walked to the school bus on his first day of school.
He turned and ran right back to me and said "Mom, I love you".
But he looked so small with his lunch pail that my eyes filled up with tears.
I knew I couldn't watch over him and my heart was full of fears.
So I sent a simple prayer, go the good Lord up above.
I said please God please watch over him and lend a guiding hand.
Please keep him safe from harm, and bring him safely home.
Please God, oh please, he's my little boy.
A few years later and flushed with pride 'cause he passed his driver's test.
He hugged me tight and kissed me quick and said "Mom you're the best".
But he looked so young in that driver's seat, that my eyes filled up with tears.
I knew I couldn't watch over him and my heart was full of fears.
More years later, in the Army now, about to go to war.
Standing tall he smiled at me and said "Mom, I'll be home for sure".
But he looked so grown in his Army greens that my eyes filled up with tears.
I knew I couldn't watch over him and my heart was full of fears.
So I sent a simple prayer to the good Lord up above.
I said please God, please watch over him, and lend a guiding hand.
Please keep him safe from harm, and bring him safely home.
Please God, oh please.
He's my little boy.
